Why -28% on a Beat-and-Raise?

Textbook "sell the event" unwind on a stock that ran from $5.52 to $34.82 (+530% in 12 months). Three things killed it:

1. Guide raise was underwhelming

Revenue guidance midpoint lifted from $710M to $717.5M — only a 1.1% increase. After a 20% growth quarter with 47% security acceleration, the market wanted a bigger raise. A 1% bump signals management is sandbagging or genuinely uncertain about H2 durability.

2. FCF collapsed

Free cash flow came in at $4.1M in Q1, a 2.4% margin — down 3.3 percentage points year over year. The whole bull thesis pivoted on "first profitable year → FCF inflection." A 2.4% FCF margin on $173M revenue is barely positive, and the YoY regression signals the doubled capex (10–12% of revenue) is eating into cash conversion.

3. Pre-earnings run-up was extreme

FSLY ran from $23.76 (Apr 24) to $32.36 (May 6 close) — up 36% in 8 sessions into earnings. The stock surged ~17.7% on Tuesday alone. That's a setup for brutal profit-taking regardless of the print.

4. Insider selling overhang

Insiders sold $40.3M worth of shares in the past 90 days. At $32, institutional holders who rode the 5x from lows had massive incentive to exit.

Updated Valuation at $22.74

Metric At $32.36 (pre-print) At $22.74 (AH)
Mkt Cap ~$5.05B ~$3.55B
EV/Rev 2026E ($717M) ~6.7x ~4.7x
Fwd P/E ($0.30 EPS) ~108x ~76x
EV/Adj EBITDA (est ~$120M) ~40x ~28x

Trade Recap: Jun 18 $22.5C

Key lesson: On a name that ran 530% in a year with 130% IV into earnings, taking profit pre-binary was the right call. The Q1 print was good — but "good" was already priced in at $32.

Is This a Buy Now?

Bull Case ($28-32 in 6 months)

Bear Case ($15-18)

Verdict

The print was good, not great. Revenue/EPS beats don't matter when FCF goes the wrong way and the guide raise is token. At $22.74, valuation is more reasonable — but the stock needs to prove FCF can scale with revenue before the next leg up.

Re-entry framework: If stock gaps to $22-23 and holds with volume tapering, a fresh Jun 18 $22.5C at ~$1.50-2.00 has far better risk/reward at depressed IV (breakeven ~$24-24.50 vs $26.60 last time). More conservative approach: wait for $20 support test and revisit after Q2.
