Business Overview

Qinqin Foodstuffs manufactures and distributes packaged food and snacks across four segments in the PRC, sold under the Qinqin, Shangerry, and A Snack Shop brands. The company is controlled by Mr. Hui Ching Lau (CEO; ~56% via Sure Wonder Ltd) and listed on the Main Board since July 2016.

2025 segment revenue breakdown (RMB):

SegmentRevenue (RMB M)% of totalGross Margin
Jelly Products486.753.4%26.4%
Crackers & Chips297.032.6%29.0%
Seasoning Products62.26.8%35.6%
Confectionery & Other65.67.2%20.0%
Total911.5100%27.4%

The structural challenge: Gross margin of 27.4% is being fully consumed by distribution (13.6% of revenue) and administration (15.1% of revenue) — combined OpEx of 28.7% exceeds gross margin, leaving an operating profit of only RMB 1.2M. The company is using the cash cushion and interest income (RMB 9.9M) to stay cash-flow positive while pivoting.

The pivot: Management is shifting from weakening traditional retail/distribution to snack food chain clients (higher throughput), OEM manufacturing, and export markets. H1 2025 was profitable (net profit ~RMB 21.6M); H2 deteriorated sharply. H2 2026 results (to be released ~Aug 2026 for H1 2026) will be the key catalyst to watch.

Valuation

Method: EV/EBITDA primary (adjusted EBITDA removes D&A noise from an asset-heavy food plant; RMB 80.6M in 2025A). P/B cross-check (balance sheet discipline for a company with significant net cash). Avoid: pure FCF-DCF (earnings are near-zero; too model-sensitive). No "Buy" rating until revenue trend turns positive.

Scenario Table

ScenarioRev (RMB M)Adj EBITDAEV/EBITDA multipleEquity value (HKD/sh)P/B
Bull — Pivot succeeds; chains/OEM/export lift revenue; EBITDA recovers 950RMB 95M5.5x HKD 1.380.82x
Base — Revenue stabilizes; modest cost improvement; EBITDA mildly improves 875RMB 72M4.0x HKD 1.070.60x
Bear — Further volume loss; cost-cut insufficient; net cash erodes 800RMB 50M2.5x HKD 0.700.40x
Weighted (25/50/25) ——— HKD 1.06—

EV methodology: EV = assumed EBITDA × multiple; equity value = EV + net cash (RMB 380M, held constant in base/bull, reduced to RMB 330M in bear). Converted at RMB/HKD 1.135. Shares: 753.78M. P/B cross-check uses assumed end-2026 book values.

Reverse Read

At HKD 1.07, the market values the operating business at only HKD 0.50/share after netting HKD 0.57/share in net cash (53.4% of the price). The implied EV of ~RMB 330M at 4.1× 2025A EBITDA (RMB 80.6M) prices in flat-to-marginally-improving operations. To justify HKD 1.07, the business needs EBITDA to hold at ~RMB 80M — no turnaround premium is embedded at this price.

Peer Table

HK-listed peers in packaged/snack food; all RMB-reporting businesses. Peer data: various public sources, August 2025–August 2026; exact dates vary. Use as directional context only — data availability for small-cap HK food names is limited.

CompanyCode Mkt Cap (HKD M) Revenue Net income P/B EV/Sales

Jiashili Group1285.HK ~477~HKD 1.63B Profitable ~0.38x~0.3x
Labixiaoxin Snacks1262.HK ~437~HKD 867M Loss ~1.31x~0.4x

Qinqin's P/B of 0.59x is in-line with Jiashili (0.38x) and below Labixiaoxin (1.31x despite losses). The sector clearly does not command book-value premiums. This limits P/B upside and reinforces EBITDA-multiple as the primary anchor.

Conclusion & Verdict

Rating: HOLD  ·  Fair value range HKD 1.00–1.20 (midpoint ~HKD 1.10)  ·  Current price HKD 1.07 (17 Aug 2026)

The NED's HKD 21M purchase at ~HKD 0.87 in June–July 2026 was a legitimate open-market signal at a genuinely cheap price (P/B 0.48x, EV/EBITDA ~2.9x). The stock has already re-rated +23% and now sits at roughly our base-case fair value. The easy money has been made by buyers who followed the signal early.

Bull case intact but priced in at current levels: Three conditions needed for re-rating to HKD 1.35–1.45: (1) H1 2026 results showing revenue stabilisation or return to growth; (2) EBITDA margins recovering above 9%; (3) cost controls in admin/distribution tightening. None of these are confirmed yet.

Balance sheet backstop remains compelling: Net cash of RMB 381M (≈ HKD 432M; 54% of market cap) provides meaningful downside protection. Even in the bear case, the company has the cash to survive multi-year transition without distress. The maintained dividend (yield 3.2%) is funded from cash, not earnings — sustainable for 2–3 years even at zero profit.

Key watch item: H1 2026 interim results (expected August–September 2026). If revenue declines again YoY, risk tilts to the bear case. If snack-chain/OEM revenue offsets traditional channel losses, base case holds and the dividend provides a carry.
